Theft of vehicle number plates in Manor Road, Sutton Coldfield. |

|
Dear Resident. What has happened? Between 5pm and 6.45pm on Wednesday the 11th of December 2025 unknown offenders have approached a parked and unattended motor vehicle. They have then removed both the front and rear number plates , and then made good their escape in an unknown direction. Why do criminals steal number plates? To most of us our number plates are something we give little thought to. However they can be attractive to criminals who are looking to change the identity of a similar vehicle, which is likely a stolen vehicle. The change of identity makes the vehicle harder to trace. How could the number plate theft victim be effected by these actions? It is likely that the victim could receive various correspondence relating to traffic, and parking offences from locations where the cloned vehicle is being used. What can you do to help avoid being a victim of this crime? The use of anti theft number plate screws are a good way to prevent being a victim of this crime. These work like normal screws until they are unscrewed , then they cause the number plate to break , making it useless to the offender. They are available on line, search anti theft number plate screws. They are also an item we take taken along to many of our police surgeries, which we advertise via this WMNOW system For more crime prevention advice please visit: www.westmidlands.police.uk
